Packing food for a trip

Postby maverick on Wed Jan 30, 2008 3:45 am GMT

Hello,
I am a regional airline pilot flying domestic routes in the eastern USA (EMB 145). Trying to eat healthier and save some bucks, i'm tired of eating out at the airport restaurants.
How do you guys deal with bringing food for 3-4 day trips?
Any suggestions?

It can be very difficult to pack enough food for a 4 day trip and completely avoid eating in retaurants. However there are a few things you can do to save money and eat healthier on the trips.

You can get a lunch cooler such as this oneImage. pack food like Tuna, bread, peanut butter and Slim-Fast meal replacement bars.
Some hotels provide you with a room Microwave so you can bring with you microwavable food.
Many pilots pack home-made food, such as pasta, rice or mashed potatoes and put it in thier lunch boxes. although it can be a challenge to carry enough for 3-4 days.
In hotels that serve free breakfasts, you can carry out a few bagels, fruit, and bread spread and use it later to supplement lunch and dinner. Other hotels have crew meals which you can carry out with you in the morning.

it would be nice to hear any other ideas from anyone.
