The Fair Treatment for Experienced Pilots Act, signed yesterday by the president of the United States, raised the mandatory retirement age of commercial pilots on passenger flights to 65.

The act ends a long fight to increase the limit age of airline pilots from age 60.

Under the new law, both pilots on domestic flights can be up to age 65. For international flights, one pilot may be up to age 65 provided the other pilot is under age 60. The new law is consistent with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standard issued in November 2006.
