Delta Airlines plans cutbacks in an effort to optimize its operation. The plan results from the sky-rocketing fuel costs. Crude oil price went up by 20 percent since the begining of the year.

The airline will cutback 2,000 jobs and 10 percent of its domestic routes this year. The job cut consists of 1,300 frontline positions and 700 administrative and management positions. To achieve the labor reduction, 30,000 employees will be offered an early leave option.

About 20 mainline airplanes and 20 regional jets will be parked as part of the plan.

While cutting on its domestic operations, Delta will add more international flights. It plans to grow the international operation by at least 15% by the end of this year.
